We are studying on intelligent robot systems based on high-speed sensing technology of tactile, slip and proximity sensors. Furthermore, our research interest also includes advanced human interfaces and other creative works.

Tactile sensor

A tactile sensor is developed with the aim of covering a robot’s entire structure, while reducing wiring requirement and ensuring high-speed response.

Proximity sensor

We developed proximity sensor array that detects an approaching object center position and distance. This sensor is based on Net-Structure Tactile Sensor. Wires from the sensor consist of six wires only regardless of number, surface area, or placement of detection elements. Response time is less than 1 ms without regard to the number of detection elements.

Slip sensor

We developed a simple structural slip sensor using the pressure conductive rubber. The sensor distinguishes between both contact and initial slip with high sensitivity. The sensor is flexible, thin and lightweight and can be mounted on the tip of each finger of a robot hand.
